-Contest-

Hey there, I figured what better way to start the newsletter than with a superb contest idea. First, how about I start with the prizes? I am a little spread thin for Special Unit 2 merchandise. However, I have a Special Unit 2 notepad and a couple pencils used in promoting the show. The pencils have the tagline "Darwin was half right," on them. Along with that, I will send over vhs labels of your own design. (Tell me what you want, and I will make them for you) Every one who enters will get 3 labels for your tape collection I know, I don't have a whole lot, but who is not to say in the future I won't have better stuff to give up for merchandise. Have a little fun with this everyone.

The objective of this contest is pretty simple. Make a wanted poster of Carl. This can go however you would like it to go. It can be serious, comical, or anything you want. You don't have to be an artist, you don't have to be a writer, all you need is a little creativity. Come and give it a shot, even just for the hell of it. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you want it to be. The main thing is to have fun with this.

Send your entries via e-mail if you can to drkangel_113@yahoo.com. Otherwise, e-mail for other arrangements to make for submitting your entry.

Destruction Incognito
The Dark Side of Nicholas O'Malley

Destitute is this world,
World that I love,
World that abandoned me,
For another self.
Where did they go,
I fret for the life,
Unable to quench sanity,
This world upon me did it strike.
Each moment goes bye,
I hear that sound,
That wolf it howls,
Ripping my soul apart.
Of all living things,
That wolf doth remains,
And accompanies my fragile mind.
Alone in this world,
With the deafening cries,
I scream not for sanity,
Nor for life, I scream not to die.
In the hallows of the court,
I hear the cries of this world.
A world that died,
Cries for a help that exists nevermore.
Heroes failed to save the world,
But this hero remains,
For in my heart, this world
It did alienated me,
When they accepted him.
The cries return, to tear at my soul,
Cries of the wolf and this dead world,
They cry for what they miss,
They cry for those who appreciated it.
The world of my mind,
Misses the living souls who did care.
Those people I dearly love,
For having been there for me.
My world is gone,
Destroyed by the other,
Whom I call the darkness,
The dark that overwhelmed me.
The dark drove away the innocence,
And squelched the riot,
Commencing in my mind.
The dark destroyer of minds,
Ripper of souls, took me away,
Away from that beautiful paradise.
I knew it well, but not enough,
Enough to know, that it would be,
Be the death that destroyed me.
The cries of my world,
Tear me apart, but is it the wolf,
Or is the world that searches for a hero.
I cannot fight this battle forever,
I have done my best,
If I should lose, this world will be at rest.
Where the wolf lies, may it be at peace,
So that when the end has come,
My darkness will die with me.

The Quest for Merchandise

I am sure as well the rest of my colleagues of Special Unit 2 fandom, that I have a burning question about Special Unit 2 merchandise. Namely, where in the blue hell is it? I always find it a little sad there is nothing at all for fans to invest in. Sure, we have message boards, we can make websites, and we sit down for an hour, or two, or three to watch our favorite show over and over again. I personally watch Special Unit 2 three times in one night, then a couple more to be sure of my info. Anyway, there are a few ways we get involved and support our show. However, with that said, we are Sci-Fi fans. Sci-fi fans are fanatics when it comes to merchandise, from press kits to trading cards to cd's of the music.

There is an untapped market out there for merchandise on Special Unit 2. Trading Cards would be a great place to start, may I recommend Rittenhouse? They have done beautiful jobs on the First Wave, Stargate SG-1 trading card sets. A Special Unit 2 comic book would be a great way to bring in new viewers and appease the die-hard fans. Compact discs of the music would be a sure hit. With the hard rock songs and, or the score, it would sell. How about a Making of Special Unit 2 book? Or Special Unit 2 Encyclopedia? Or even novelizations and a continuing book series? A Special Unit 2 badge? A SU-2 gun (make it a water gun)?

In the end, it is hard on the fans to try to scrounge for photos and press kits on E-bay. It is worse when you have so many ideas on what you would want to have and pay for. I would give my left arm for dvd's of the show. Merchandise. It is something every fan thinks about, it is also something that shows should not be afraid to start out somewhere then gradually move in to the bigger arena. We all work hard to spread the word, how about giving something back to us and to yourself for all your work?

Did You Know?

A Transportation Coordinator is the person responsible for managing drivers and coordinating the transportation of the cast, crew and equipment from the various locations and sets used for filming. The Transportation Coordinator on Special Unit 2 is Mark Angus.

A Set Designer is the person responsible for translating a production designer's vision of the movie's environment (sketches, drawings, etc...) into a set, which can be used for filming. The Set Decorator on Special Unit 2 is Kristen Maine who has worked on other shows in UPN alumnus Freedom.

A grip is responsible for the adjustment and maintenance of production equipment, like the cameras, lights, etc on the set. Their typical duties include laying dolly tracks or erecting scaffolding. These people never get the credit they deserve; they are crucial to the production of a television series. Without them, nothing would ever get done at all. Very hardworking the grips give all they have because they believe in a show and are proud of what they do. I'm not sure who they are on Special Unit 2, but the words "thank you" are the right place to start.
